The "Are you hypertensive? Ombremia" app is an initiative conceived and created by the Italian society of arterial hypertension (Siia), it aims to spread a better knowledge of uric acid and risks related to hyperuricemia among patients, with particular reference to the contribution of chronic hyperuricemia to the increase in the risk of arterial hypertension and other cardiovascular diseases.

Chronic hyperuricemia, that is, a persistent increase in uric acid in the blood, is a common condition in the Italian population but often can be asymptomatic for a long time; For this reason, it is often ignored or neglected by the patient, with the consequent danger of development over time of serious complications (e.g. arterial hypertension; organ damage at the level of joints, heart, kidney, etc.).

The measurement of uricemia is a simple examination that establishes the concentration of uric acid in the blood. In the patient with chronic hyperuricemia, uric acid should be maintained below 6.0 mg/dl to reduce the risk of serious damage to the body, also at the cardiovascular level.

Once the app is downloaded it will be possible to the patient to self -evaluate the risk of being affected by hyperuricemia, through a test made up of a few simple questions, and you can also have a useful diary of the measurements of Uricemia and any ongoing therapies.

Using the app, a series of information on chronic hyperuricemia and advice for proper nutrition and a healthy lifestyle will also be available, useful for reducing the risk of arterial hypertension and other diseases.
